Student Diary : A walk to remember

By Ankita Garve

Hey friends! I would like to share my experience of this walk with you all. The “HERITAGE WALK” of our college which was organized on 18th February,2013 was really superb…… We enjoyed a lot as we all were together including the 1st and 2nd year students. This walk was open to all but only the 1st and 2nd year students participated because the PGDMC students had exams. The students who came for the walk were in huge numbers than expected… really…..!!! We had lots of fun in the bus too……

All the students were picked up from particular points and were dropped back at their respective points. We first reached “KAMALA PARK” lead by our teachers Rolii Ma’am and Amit Sir. Our guide was already standing at “KAMALA PARK” waiting for us to arrive. He was Mr. SIKANDER MALIK – a person having loads and loads of knowledge about the history of Bhopal…. He was really an amazing person who provided us with lots of knowledge about ancient history. At every spot he guided us with the information of that particular monument. Our walk was for about 2 to 2.5 kilometers which we could not even realize in our enjoyment…….!

After “KAMALA PARK” we went to “GAUHAR MAHAL”. It was truly a wonderful place. The only sad part was that we could not enter the “MAHAL” because a fair was organized at the “MAHAL” due to which we could not get permission. The fair was named as “SHILPI MELA” of handicrafts. Then we reached “IQBAAL MAIDAN” which was a great place. It had a wonderful garden. But people had spoiled it by throwing eatables and other waste. Government as well as the people must preserve it by understanding its importance.

We took our steps forward to “SADAR MANZIL”. Wow…… the place, the architecture, the garden, the fountain… truly spectacular…… The walls there displayed BHOPAL’S connection with FRENCH STYLE architecture. The office of Nagar Nigam was also situated at the “SADAR MANZIL”. Overall it was a nice place where we had another interesting tour.

At last we all boarded the bus to our respective points where we were dropped. Overall it was a great experience and immense learning and we want to experience more such visits……… In my view, the Government and people should take initiatives to keep all the old monuments protected and safe because these are the “HERITAGE” of our country. Also it is the responsibility of us as individuals to do our bit……….!

We moved ahead to our last spot which was “NATIONAL ARCHIVES” where we got to know about the oldest and oldest of records. We also saw some of the records which dated back to 1857. We also saw the preservation room where the documents were being laminated and we also saw how these documents were stored.
